SmartPacker T3
Mixed Carton Loading

Plan a mixed-carton load for one container. Tune the quantity of each cargo, allow any of the six orientations where the cargo permits, and check the plan in 3D.

Download SmartPacker T3

The current package is T3 v260903. Thin-carton calculations now stay within the time limit and show a status message while the loading plan is being calculated. When a second carton type is added, SmartPacker first tries the remaining container space so small follow-up quantities can load promptly with the correct quantity traffic light. The package is a ZIP file: unzip it and run the executable, no installer required. The trial runs on Windows 64-bit, does not need internet access, and is valid through December 30, 2026.

The cargo-quantity panel

0:49

Roll the mouse wheel on a quantity and the loading plan follows one carton at a time; type a number and press Enter to go straight to the plan you want.

Green light, red light

0:54

Green means this cargo can still be increased, red means no feasible way was found to add one more. Follow the greens until they all turn red, and read the fill rate in the summary.

Let a carton stand on its side

0:40

Some cartons must stay upright, and the plan is reworked around them; untick the rule for one that can safely lie on its side and the room comes back. T3 explores all six orientations wherever you allow it.

Press the air out

0:44

Shave twenty millimetres off a soft carton and its light turns green again; then lock the sizes with Cargo Editable off so a stray mouse wheel cannot change them.

Reading the plan in 3D

0:41

Set the viewing angle, step through the load stack by stack to reveal the rows hidden behind the front, then hide the panel to give the picture the whole screen.

Your own cartons and containers

T3 reads its cargo and container list from one Excel file; the Masterdata page edits a row inside the app, with Upright as the sixth column.

Narration and captions are computer-generated. The cargo, containers, and quantities shown are sample data.

What T3 Helps Answer

T3 is the SmartPacker edition for a known container and a list of mixed cargo. It works out which cargo quantities can be loaded together and shows how the plan fits.

T1 handles one carton type; T3 handles several. Unlike U3, T3 may turn a carton onto any of its six faces wherever the cargo allows it.

Green and red lights beside each quantity show whether that cargo can still be increased: a practical way to tune a mixed FCL shipment without recalculating by hand.

Common Use Cases

Procurement

Fine-tune an order so the cargo fits into a full container load.

Logistics Quotes

Estimate whether a mixed shipment fits and how many containers are needed.

Manufacturing

Plan recurring shipment quantities against a fill-rate target, with every load checked for fit.

Basic Workflow

  • Open data/t3/masterdata.xlsx to edit cargo dimensions on the Cargo sheet and the container loading space on the Container sheet.
  • Start with the cargo-quantity panel. Roll the mouse wheel over a quantity box, or type a quantity directly and press Enter to skip the intermediate redraws.
  • Follow the green indicators to add cargo. When indicators turn red, the current cargo type cannot be increased under the current settings.
  • The current version keeps each stack to a single cargo type, so use the indicators and the 3D view together when judging a mixed plan.
  • If your cargo can safely rotate, relax the upright constraint and let T3 explore all six orientations.
  • Use the 3D view, viewing-angle controls, Next Block, and Next Stack to inspect the loading plan step by step.

Changes made in the user interface are saved back to data/t3/masterdata.xlsx. If you need to preserve the original example data, make a backup copy before editing cargo dimensions.
